Coverage Atlas · Vol. I

Which alternative data covers which sector.

Unconfirmed cells below are editorial inference — our reading of what a provider in that category is likely to cover — not a claim by the provider. Stated cells quote the provider’s own public page, with the source and the date. Nothing here is a ranking, and we publish no negative claims.

The matrix

Each cell counts the providers whose data is likely, stated or confirmed to cover that sector. Cells with three or more providers open a page listing them. On a phone the matrix reads sector by sector — tap a sector to open it.

Inferred Likely, unconfirmed — our editorial inference from the provider's category, not a fact about the provider.Stated Quoted from the provider's own public page, with the URL and the crawl date.Confirmed The provider confirmed this to us directly, dated. In a cell, n is all providers and ◆ n those with a stated or confirmed claim.

What the register states

Of the 368 providers, 207 publish a usable description of their universe on their own site — 42 of them say their data is mapped to public tickers, 8 name an index universe such as the S&P 500 or Russell 3000, 89 give an approximate number of companies, and 87 name the companies they cover. The remaining 161 are placed by inference only, and say so on their pages.

Method, and how to cite

Coverage is recorded as universe descriptors — asset classes, regions, GICS sectors, approximate count, index references, ticker mapping, history — never as per-ticker lists. Every record carries one of three provenance tiers and a date. Inferred records come from a 20-row editorial table mapping each signal type to the sectors it typically serves; stated records are quotations from the provider’s public pages, dated and re-checked periodically; confirmed records come from the provider. Providers can confirm or correct their row from their own page. The full dataset is published at /coverage.json (AltData Atlas Data Licence v1: attribution required, no bulk redistribution), as Markdown, and per cell under /api — see for agents.
