Endpoints

All GET, all static, regenerated whenever the data changes. Described in OpenAPI 3.1; the provider record follows the JSON Schema.

{signal} is a category slug (card-transactions, web-pricing, news-sentiment …). {sector} is one of energy, materials, industrials, consumer-discretionary, consumer-staples, health-care, financials, information-technology, communication-services, utilities, real-estate. All 220 signal × sector files exist, including empty ones. 89 companies are named by at least one provider today.

Markdown and llms.txt

• Append .md to any provider, category or coverage page: /provider/placer-ai.md, /category/foot-traffic.md, /coverage.md, /coverage/foot-traffic/consumer-discretionary.md.
• Indexes: /providers.md (every provider in one table) and /categories.md.
• /llms.txt maps the site in the llmstxt.org format; /llms-full.txt is the whole register and coverage layer as one Markdown file (about 1.1 MB).
• Every HTML page links its twins with <link rel="alternate"> and carries schema.org JSON-LD with dateModified.

What a record claims — the three tiers

Coverage is described as universe descriptors (signal types, regions, GICS sectors, approximate count, index universes, ticker mapping, history), never as per-ticker lists. Every record carries a tier and a date. Report the tier with the fact.

A missing provider, sector or company means “not in the register”, never “no such data exists”. Nothing here is a ranking. Prices are indicative bands (under $50k, $50–150k, $150k+), never quotes. Not investment advice.

• The register changes when providers are added or corrected; the date moves with it.
• Every record is dated; stated coverage is re-checked periodically.
• Providers can confirm or correct their record at hello@altdataatlas.com (subject “[Coverage] <provider name>”).

MCP server — coming soon

A Model Context Protocol server with four tools (search_providers, get_provider, coverage, companies_named) over these same endpoints is built and tested but not yet published. Until then, any MCP client with a fetch tool can use the endpoints above directly.

Crawlers

robots.txt welcomes search and AI crawlers by name, including GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, Claude-User, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Perplexity-User, Google-Extended, Applebot-Extended, CCBot and Bingbot. The sitemap lists HTML pages with their real data dates.
